Das Prinzip der Brennstoffzelle? Sie wandelt Wasserstoff in Strom um. Den notwendigen Wasserstoff dafür gibt es für die HOCHBAHN-Busse an der Wasserstoff-Tankstelle in der HafenCity. Nach so einer Auftankung ist der Bus dann rein elektrisch auf Hamburgs Straßen unterwegs. Und rein im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Denn er stößt nur Wasserdampf aus, keine Schadstoffe.
Und weil ein innovativer Bus auch immer an die Zukunft „denkt“, speichert unser Brennstoffzellenbus zusätzlich Bremsenergie, die er nach dem Bremsen sofort wieder für den Antrieb des Elektromotors nutzt. Also: ein echtes Vorbild an laufender Effizienz.
Der läuft … und läuft … und läuft: Batteriebus mit Brennstoffzelle als Range-Extender.
Ein Range-Extender ist ein „Reichweitenverlängerer“, in diesem Fall eine Brennstoffzelle, mit der man die Reichweite eines elektrisch betriebenen Fahrzeugs erhöhen kann. Und diese Reichweite kann sich sehen lassen: Unser „Solaris“-Gelenkbus schafft mehr als 250 Kilometer rein elektrisch, ohne Nachladen auf der Strecke. Bis zu 105 Fahrgäste können so schadstofffrei und geräuscharm quer durch Hamburg fahren. Manchmal ist der leise Fortschritt eben der beste.
